FAQs
Do you undertake landscaping?
I don’t do the hard landscaping, no.
I recommend a landscape contractor or collaborate with your own to bring your design to life. The contractor will undertake the hard landscaping, construction elements, and sourcing of soft landscaping. I will liaise with the contractor at the quotation stage, make a site visit when the work begins, and will be present to lay out the soft landscaping elements personally to ensure the vision is realised. This allows me to focus on design and soft landscaping.
What is the cost of a garden design?
When it comes to budgeting for your garden design, it’s helpful to have an idea of what you can spend on the project at the outset because it helps me to make the most informed decisions about the possibilities within your space.
Depending on its size and complexity, a good starting point is to consider spending around 5-10% of your home's value on landscaping. But don’t worry if that number doesn’t feel right for you — the actual cost can vary greatly depending on your goals and budget, and the scale of the redesign. Naturally, larger gardens with more intricate hardscaping and mature plants will sit at the higher end, and bespoke features or significant structural elements can push the budget beyond this range. I’m happy to help you find a balance that suits your vision and resources.
Your budget is ultimately the most important factor, and I can work with you to prioritise the elements that will make the most impact. Soft landscaping, such as lawns, perennials, trees, and shrubs, often offers a more affordable way to add beauty and seasonal interest. On the other hand, hard landscaping features like patios, gazebos, walls, or decks can provide structure and functionality but typically require a higher investment. As well as the cost of materials, the cost of the labour needs to be considered.
Working with a professional garden designer like me ensures your budget is used effectively, creating a space that’s both beautiful and practical. Plus, a well-designed garden can increase your property’s value, making it a worthwhile investment. If you'd like to chat about what’s possible within your budget, feel free to get in touch — I’d be happy to help you explore your options!
How do we get started?
Getting started is easy! Just fill out the web form and send over a couple of pictures of your garden. I’ll then share a short client questionnaire to get a better sense of your ideas. From there, we can arrange a complimentary consultation call — I’d love to hear all about your project, your vision for your dream garden, and how I can help bring it to life.
During our chat, we’ll cover things like your goals for the space, your budget, and any questions you have about the design process. I’ll also explain how I work, discuss timeframes, and outline the next steps to get your garden design journey underway.
What plans do I receive with the complete garden design?
I will produce an initial written brief with flexible ideas that combine your hopes and my vision for your garden.
I’ll prepare a site plan, to show how things are at the moment.
You will receive a hand rendered concept plan, which is a two-dimensional scale drawing (plan / aerial view) with elevations as needed to help communicate the concept.
A moodboard will give you ideas of colours, materials, and planting.
A working plan for the contractor will show dimensions and hard landscaping elements.
A planting plan and planting schedule detail the plant locations and number needed.
Once you’ve presented the design, what next?
After I’ve finalised your garden design and you’re happy with it, I can connect you with trusted contractors to get quotes for the hard landscaping. If you already have contractors working on-site, I’m more than happy to collaborate with them to bring your design to life.
