FAQs

Do you undertake landscaping?

In addition to design-only services, I can support your project through to completion by coordinating with trusted local landscapers.

All of my designs are tailored to your project and based on carefully researched, sourceable materials and products. I work with a reliable network of suppliers and specialists, covering everything from hard landscaping materials to greenhouses, bespoke sheds, timber structures, and planting.

If you’d like me to be involved in the build stage, I will prepare detailed construction drawings for contractors and can either recommend a suitable landscaper or collaborate with one you’ve chosen. The contractor will carry out the hard landscaping and construction work, while I focus on sourcing and delivering the soft landscaping elements.

I remain involved throughout the process—liaising during the quotation stage, visiting site at the start of works, and personally setting out the planting to ensure the final result reflects the original design vision.

What is the cost of a garden design?

When it comes to budgeting for your garden design, it’s helpful to have an idea of what you can spend on the project at the outset because it helps me to make the most informed decisions about the possibilities within your space.

Depending on its size and complexity, a good starting point is to consider spending around 5-10% of your home's value on landscaping. But don’t worry if that number doesn’t feel right for you — the actual cost can vary greatly depending on your goals and budget, and the scale of the redesign. Naturally, larger gardens with more intricate hardscaping and mature plants will sit at the higher end, and bespoke features or significant structural elements can push the budget beyond this range. I’m happy to help you find a balance that suits your vision and resources.

Your budget is ultimately the most important factor, and I can work with you to prioritise the elements that will make the most impact. Soft landscaping, such as lawns, perennials, trees, and shrubs, often offers a more affordable way to add beauty and seasonal interest. On the other hand, hard landscaping features like patios, gazebos, walls, or decks can provide structure and functionality but typically require a higher investment. As well as the cost of materials, the cost of the labour needs to be considered.

Working with a professional garden designer like me ensures your budget is used effectively, creating a space that’s both beautiful and practical. Plus, a well-designed garden can increase your property’s value, making it a worthwhile investment. If you'd like to chat about what’s possible within your budget, feel free to get in touch — I’d be happy to help you explore your options!

How do we get started?

Getting started is simple. Just fill out the website form or email me to arrange a complimentary visit to your home.

This initial visit gives us a chance to meet, discuss your ideas, and explore the space you’d like designed. Following this, I’ll send you a detailed quote outlining my design service, what’s included, and the next steps.

If you decide to proceed, I’ll share a client questionnaire to gather more insight into your vision. This covers your goals for the space, budget, preferences, and any must-have features—helping me shape a design that truly reflects your needs.

What plans do I receive with the complete garden design?

Following our initial visit and your completed questionnaire, I’ll prepare a clear written brief outlining the design direction, priorities, and key requirements. This ensures we’re aligned before moving into the creative stage.

I will then develop a concept design that brings together your vision and my ideas for how the space can be transformed.

You will receive:

  • A full-colour concept plan (a scaled, two-dimensional layout, with elevations where needed)

  • A detailed design proposal explaining the concept and design decisions

  • A moodboard illustrating the proposed materials, colours, and planting style

I will also prepare for contractors:

  • A working plan, including dimensions and full hard landscaping details

  • A planting plan and schedule, specifying plant types, quantities, and locations

Once you’ve presented the design, what next?

After I’ve finalised your garden design and you’re happy with it, I can connect you with trusted contractors to get quotes for the hard landscaping. If you already have contractors working on-site, I’m more than happy to collaborate with them to bring your design to life.
